Daniel's Revelation of Messiah___________________________________ Zechariah 9:9
![]()
The Babylonians attacked the city of Jerusalem in six waves destroying the city, the temple, and leading the majority of the surviving Jewish population back to Babylon in chains (586 B.C.) Daniel was one of the survivors who was taken captive, and longed to return to Jerusalem-"The City of Peace" in peace. It was during a time while Daniel was confessing his sin, the sin of his people, and appealing to God through prayer and fasting with hopes that God would restore him and God's other covenant people to the land of promise, and specifically Jerusalem that the angel Gabriel was dispatched by God to Daniel in Babylon (Daniel 9). The angel informs Daniel that he will not see or experience the second exodus from their present Babylonian captivity (Dan 12:13), but that it would indeed occur after his death in accordance with God's word given to the preexilic prophets. In other words, the Jewish people would one day return to their homeland in accordance with God's promise, but not during Daniel's lifetime. However, God does grant Daniel insight into the times and seasons of this future post exillic exodus. Not only that, Daniel learns the time and purpose of the promised Mesiah's visitation (Daniel 9:24-26a). Among other things, Daniel is told Messiah would come to Jerusalem after the temple and city of Jerusalem would be rebuilt as it lay in ruins at the time of this revelation, and that the coming Messiah would be "cut off for transgressions, but not for himself twenty-one days before the 583rd anniversary month of Artexerxe's decree of 444, which ended Nisan/April 30, 33 AD. Then, the temple/city of Jerusalem would again be destroyed, which indeed occurred 70 A.D. by the Roman general Titus. Select the image to examine Daniel's revelation of Messiah's visitation.
In addition to the precise time the Messiah would appear, other prophetic milestones were given by the prophets that predate historical Jesus the man. Messiah's lineage, tribe, birth place are among many included in chart form below for your consideration.

Daniel 9:24-26 in the historical context of Daniel and Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:8) is evidence in the TaNaCH for a two part, two role, and two time messianic visitation since the temple that was built under Solomon was already destroyed, would be rebuilt, then Messiah would come and be cut off, and what became Herod's temple would be destroyed before a third rebuilt temple, and the anticipated golden messianic age that would come to pass in the end of things.
Messiah would come first humbly, and as a suffering-servant and be "cut off." Zechariah 9:9 __ After an interval of time according to Daniel 9, Messiah would come again as a King in the clouds (Daniel 7:13). Granted, the lion does not lay down with the wolf YET (cf. Daniel 7:13-27, Isaiah 2:2-5, Isaiah 11:6, Isaiah 65:17-25). Those embracing Yeshua as the Jewish Messiah for the nations do not claim he fulfilled all messianic prophesies YET BECAUSE OF THE TWO VISITATION TIME TABLE PRESENTED IN DANIEL 9. However, if G-d can bring Daniel 9:24-26 to pass in such detail as I show elsewhere in accordance with all of the predictions having to do with Messiah's first visitation, you can be confident "the I AM" in Zechariah 12:10 will fulfil those outstanding messianic prophesies having to do with the culmination of the good news of His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Unfortunately, many today try to explain away those Messianic predictions having to do with Messiah's suffering servant role BECAUSE THEY MISSED THE TIMETABLE PRESENTED IN DANIEL 9.
